Fashion can be at its best when it isn’t too serious. The return of the early internet aesthetic is a great example of this. Although you may not believe that slogan T-shirts from the mall and WordArt graphics are fashionable, it was true after wearing them for one year. This nostalgic trend pays tribute to the early days and all the overdone graphics and absurdities that were associated with the internet. Although it is difficult to identify (it doesn’t really have an actual name), the trend is easy to spot: Think T-shirts that feature aggressive or hyper-specific slogans. For instance, Brangelina with the image of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

I prefer to call it “cheugy-core”: it is taking something that would otherwise be “cheugy” (or sometimes just absurd) and wearing it with intention and irony. To truly embody this trend, you should first check the back of your closet or your local thrift shops. Some brands even incorporate pop culture references and tie in current trends. However, not all brands are able to capture the trend. The best part is that most of these items are extremely comfortable. This is for the next generation!
