PETA’s Vegan Fashion Award goes to sustainable brand Miomojo

Italian sustainable accessories brand Miomojo was awarded the Vegan Fashion Award by animal rights organisation PETA in the “Best Handbag 2021” category for its “Giorgia” bag made out of AppleSkin.

“PETA, the biggest animal rights organization in the world has awarded us the .award. This honors labels, style icons and forward-thinking designer who have made major statements for animals in 2021.” Miomojo explains that exactly what Miomojo stands up for is respect for animals, the environment and the people.

The brand’s Prima line includes the “Giorgia”, a bag made from AppleSkin. This innovative leather alternative is made from skin and core apples waste from the food industry. The zipper is in light-gold and is free of nickel and allergy.

“I love the versatility and colour of this bag. It can be used as both a backpack and a shoulder bag. It would be nice if the next version had a zippered pocket on the exterior. And the bag is really beautiful!” says a happy customer on Miomojo’s website.

Since its inception seven years ago, the Italian label has been making vegan accessories. The product line now includes handbags and bags made from nopal cactus skin and AppleSkin. 100% of the bags are made in Italy, and 10% of all proceeds go towards animal welfare.

“In the past this award was won by prominent brands like Stella McCartney, Giorgio Armani and Vivienne Westwood. We admire pioneers like these! “We couldn’t feel more humbled, honored and beyond happy” says the Bergamo-based brand when asked about the award.

Fashion is now cruelty-free. Today, more brands have made it clear that they will not use animal products in their designs. This is evidence of the shift that is happening with the increasing ban on fur and leather.
