Junk Kouture, an Irish initiative, expands into the USA

Junk Kouture, a sustainable fashion competition, has announced it will bring its youth-oriented initiative to the US as part of its ongoing global expansion.

The new edition of Junk Kouture will be launched in New York City. It joins the growing list of fashion capitals that includes London, Milan, and Paris. The event will also be held in 14 additional cities in 2022. The New York edition was launched with Climate Week NYC.

Junk Kouture is a program that empowers young designers to make a difference in the fashion industry. It offers a year-round, free academic programme on sustainability. Students aged 13-18 are asked to create haute couture clothes from recycled and waste materials.

Participants can qualify for the Junk Kouture World Final, which will be held in September 2022 and hosted by celebrity and technical judges.

Junk Kouture founder Troy Armour released, “We have taken on the task to empower the lives of youth through creative action against a real threat that our planet is climate change through a unique fashion show using pieces made from everyday items or trash.”

He said, “We are helping to create circular engineers who will be the future leaders of our world. We look forward to seeing creativity soar with the launch in the United States this Year.”
