Crypto Fashion Week hosted its first Meta Gala. This was followed by an auction for digital costumers. It was a technology-driven presentation of extraordinary proportions.

The first virtual Meta Gala was inspired by New York’s Met Gala. It took place during Crypto Fashion Week (CFW), and featured a variety of expensive garments that were then auctioned off. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a fund that supports emerging digital fashion designers around the world.

Avatars walked up grandiose staircases, hovering in the clouds in castle-like settings. The event’s motto, “As Above, so Below”, reflected the blurring of the boundaries between real and virtual worlds. Eight designs were on display, which were later sold as limited edition NFTs.

The most popular design, “The Empress of the Metaverse”, was created by Ruby 9100m and digital fashion house The Fabricant. It generated the highest revenue. The avatar wore a gown that was influenced both by the Empress Wu Zetian as well as the Victorian era. It featured an elaborate crown and corset. This dress’s NFT was purchased for three Ethereum (equivalent of around 7,000 pounds). Ethereum, also known as ETH, is the second-largest cryptocurrency, after Bitcoin.

Another design included an elegant and pleated evening gown, a bold statement t-shirt, and an outfit inspired by Bollywood movies. A digital catwalk was also dominated by an impressive ball gown with moving virtual elements in red-gold.

CFW brings together fashion and blockchain systems, virtual art and artists. It gathers the designers, entrepreneurs, and technologies that make up this digital fashion movement. The launch of the Karl Lagerfeld NFT Collection was the opening ceremony for Crypto Fashion Week 2018.
