Jess Cartner-Morley: Reworking a classic that has (admit it!) lost its edge

There is no way to say this without offending my core demographic so I’m just going to come straight out with it. Although I love the Breton top just as much as you, I feel it has become a little duller. This is heresy. The Breton is proud to be identified as a football shirt for those who don’t like football shirts. It speaks of simple, but good tastes. It speaks of a range lifestyle choices that feel like values, such as olive oil, Scandi Noir box sets, and wild swimming.

But the Breton is a victim of its own success. It used to have a little bit of edge, but that is gone now. It is now the pinstripe suit for north Cornwall in this age of holidaying abroad. This is not a personal attack on anyone. It’s time for some jazz to save the soul of Breton.
